GLOSSY MAILER CAN'T HIDE LATHAM'S VOTE TO END MEDICARE

It really is annoying how Latham uses taxpayer money to gloss over his terrible voting record. See Cheryl Binzen's letter to the editor in the Ames Tribune on Latham's latest mailer to conteract his vote to end Medicare:
Did you get a four-color glossy mailing stating “Congressman Tom Latham is Fighting to Protect Medicare From a Board of Unelected Bureaucrats”? Very pretty. Also very misleading. Latham supports replacing Medicare with vouchers for buying private health insurance. Quite a boon for insurance companies. But certainly not protecting Medicare.

A glossy mailing from Latham

Did you get a four-color glossy mailing stating “Congressman Tom Latham is Fighting to Protect Medicare From a Board of Unelected Bureaucrats”? Very pretty. Also very misleading.

Latham supports replacing Medicare with vouchers for buying private health insurance. Quite a boon for insurance companies. But certainly not protecting Medicare.

Are we to believe that corporations that have a stated purpose of making a profit are going to subjugate that purpose to the well-being of an individual’s health or retirement security?

There is certainly nothing wrong with business making a profit, however it is illogical to think that any entity will make decisions counter to its stated purpose. We already hear a multitude of stories about people who have been denied health care by the very insurance companies to which they have been paying premiums for years.

The four-color glossy asks us to call Latham at (515) 232-2885 and urge him to keep fighting for America’s seniors. I second the request to call Latham, but call to help him understand what fighting for America’s seniors, current and future, is truly about.

It’s not about putting more money and health care decisions in the hands of corporations.
