Gary Woodward of Webster City connects the giant rate increases in health insurance to Latham, King and Grassley in a Des Moines Register LTE:
Regarding an 18 percent rate increase for 80,000 Blue Cross and Blue Shield members: Sen. Charles Grassley, Reps. Tom Latham and Steve King, and the rest of the Republicans, are directly responsible for this increase because of their intransigent refusal to allow any change or real competition to happen in the health care industry. Business as usual.
For you Republicans among the 80,000, ask yourself which is real, the 18 percent increase or the imagined takeover of health care by the government?
Democrats, take your finger out of the wind. A few times in history the right thing to do was not popular, i.e., Franklin Roosevelt's Depression recovery programs, Social Security, civil rights. Universal health care is of equal importance.
Without regard for consequences to political careers and by whatever means necessary, universal health care with a public option needs to happen now.
