Margaret Vernon writes in the Indianloa Record-Herald on Nov.17:
On November 7th, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act. I'm sorry Congressman Tom Latham, who represents Warren County and the rest of the 4th Congressional District, wasn't among those supporting this bill.
It is not a perfect bill, no doubt. But it would enable our citizens to have coverage when they lose their jobs, it would stop people from being dropped from their private coverage when they have a serious health problem, it would help healthcare coverage to be affordable.
The quote from a distraught woman who thought government would destroy the health care system, but demanded of her representative that he “don't touch my Medicare!” is an example of those who forget Medicare is a government program. The private insurance industry can't be the vehicle for healthcare reform anymore than the fox can take care of the hen house. As for us citizens, we need to support avenues to accessible and affordable healthcare for everyone.
